The main character of the film, Anna is a young woman with two children, happily married. They started to build a house but the inflation makes the progress slow and her husband loses his job in addition. Anna takes a job in a supermarket. Soon they find out Anna is pregnant again. It takes a long time for the young couple to make up their minds but due to financial difficulties, there is no other solution than an abortion. It is hard to accept for Anna. Then she meets Teresa, a rich businesswoman, who cannot have a baby, and offers Anna to finance the completion of their house if they let her have a child.
Fetus in a fresh way is bringing up the maternal matters in the situation of the rapidly growing capitalistic storm that developed just after the breakdown of the socialist system in Eastern Europe in the early 1990s.
Anna, her husband, and two children find it hard to make a living and also have an unplanned pregnancy. She is in a predicament due to the fact that the construction work on her house is suspended because of inflation also her husband loses his job. Abortion is an unavoidable choice for her. Teréz, a rich businesswoman, privately approaches her and proposes enormous financial compensation for her giving her baby to Teréz secretively. Anna lies to her husband and decides to stay at Teréz¡¯s house hidden until the delivery. Anna, however, encounters some doubtful incidents on Teréz's real desire and longing for a baby which makes her get extremely worried.
Teréz's idea to deal with maternity through using money suggests women¡¯s troubles and difficulties in East European social reality imbued with a confusion of values and moral looseness since the failure of real-socialism. It is a very provocative film exploring the conditions and values on motherhood through two women¡¯s subtle relationship. (NAM In-young)
