This film is Mészáros' peerless masterpiece describing all aspects of different age women everyday lives with a gender perspective on home and work, love and friendship. Kata, who works in a factory and is a single woman over 40, has a lover but he is a married man. For her age, she cannot hold off having a baby any more. Her married lover, however, views Kata's wish as a constraint on himself. One day a teenage girl Anna who lives in an orphanage comes to Kata's home and asks Kata to let her meet her boyfriend there. Kata somehow decides to make Anna's wish for marriage come true.
A single woman who wants to have a baby with a married man and a teenage girl abandoned by her parents at 6 years old and living a footloose life on the street seems 'politically incorrect' according to the patriarchal rules. Adoption vividly suggests how seemingly politically correct institution and value really repress and constrain women through the deep relationship between these two women. Especially, the documentary approach through the dynamic camerawork makes possible the vivid presentation on the fact that true voice emerges from the experiences of women living everyday lives.
